Somatic of the Heart: An Intro to the Wisdom of the Chest
With the return of the sun, warming our hearts and bodies, it’s time to get even more curious about what happens beneath the surface of our chest!
May 28th, 6:30pm-8pm
In this beginner-friendly, educational, and somatic workshop, we will focus on one of our wisest emotional centers on our bodies: the heartspace. The heartspace holds a sophisticated intelligence, shaping how we connect, retreat, open, or protect ourselves in relationships and in life through our breath, posture, sensations, and nervous system responses.
Somatics of the Heart is a 90-min introduction to the chest and what sits below the surface, introducing basic anatomy, sensations, and how to work with the heart as a source of wisdom. This workshop will weave together education with beginner embodied practices to take home to support yourselves with connection, love, courage, heartbreak, and joy.
In this workshop, you’ll learn about:
Why many of our emotions and sensations live in the chest area
Our heart-brain connection
Somatic and self-touch practices that support gentle presence and embodied awareness in the heart space
How held tension and protective patterns in the chest develop, and how to work with them with gentleness and compassion
Mapping how love, heartbreak, courage, and joy register somatically
The body’s patterns of opening, bracing, reaching, and withdrawing in relationship
This workshop is for you if:
You’re feeling disconnected from your body and want to learn practical, gentle practices to connect
You feel like you have got a lot going on in your chest and are unsure of how or where to start
Want simple tools that go beyond talk therapy
Curious about somatic healing but don’t know where to start
You’re invested in your own healing and self-knowledge, curious about what is actually happening in your body when you feel moved, guarded, open, or contracted
Desire a more embodied and relational understanding of yourself
After this workshop, you’ll have tools for a grounded map of the heartspace and its role in your healing.
No experience necessary, just curiosity!
This workshop is trauma-informed and consent-based (do only what you feel comfortable doing). There is no requirement to share or perform insight; just showing up is more than welcome. Limited spots are available to keep the space intimate.
Where is this workshop being held?
This workshop will be at The Unreliable Narrator located at 302 N. Goodman St. #E101 Rochester, NY. Please arrive 10 min before the start of the workshop to find parking and to settle in. There should be plenty of parking available in the big parking lot.
What do I need to bring?
Just yourself and a notebook if you like to record your thoughts and experience. You will get an email before the workshop with a reminder of where to go and what to bring. If your email is different from the one you use with your payment (Visa, PayPal, etc), please send me the one you would like to use at riverdrosera@gmail.com
Cost: A sacred pause and honesty
If we truly want a more just and loving world we need to talk about money, class, and income, and personally and collectively work with our money differently.
My sliding scale pricing recognizes that:
Financial resources, including income, should not determine whether or not someone can access services/care/community, etc.
Facilitators deserve to get paid and participants deserve classes that recognize the multiple realities of economic access and privilege exist.
Our worth is inherent. Regardless of how much we are able to pay, we deserve communities that honor our financial contributions as equal. Please know I appreciate your presence equally. If you pay less, nothing more is expected of you, I am grateful you are here. You do not need to work harder or do more work - I welcome and celebrate you showing up as you are and however suits you best.
Pay-it-forward: $30
Actual cost: $20
Access: $10
Pay-what-you-can: 2 spots available, email me at riverdrosera@gmail.com to register
