About River
I came to this work when language was not enough.
I’m River Drosera, a Certified Somatic Sex Educator, TRE® practitioner based in Rochester, NY, on Onöndowa’ga:’ land. My practice brings together trauma-informed bodywork, scar tissue care, erotic embodiment, and pleasure education for people seeking a more honest relationship with their bodies, boundaries, desire, and capacity for intimacy.
Many of my clients are queer, trans, women, couples, practitioners, caretakers, and artists who have already done meaningful work, yet still feel something unresolved in their bodies.
My work lives at the meeting place of the nervous system, erotic expression, relational repair, consent, creativity, and the body’s capacity to change. Clients often come to me after years of insight, therapy, study, or personal growth, when they know their healing intellectually but feel there is something missing with their connection to their body.
They may long for intimacy, but find themselves bracing, performing, disappearing, or retreating. They may be healing from trauma, surgery, shame, chronic stress, or years of living in a body shaped by expectation, scrutiny, or survival.
This is the terrain I work with and know firsthand.
Before I had the language for somatics, consent, or erotic embodiment, I knew what it was to try to feel confusion with safety, belonging, and intimacy. I understand what it was to have longing while the body answered with bracing, distance, or pain. Much of my life and work has been shaped by learning that the body does not need to be overridden to heal. It needed to be listened to with skill, patience, and respect.
My practice is rooted in the belief that the body is not a problem to overcome. It’s a living archive, a source of intelligence, and a place where repair, pleasure, grief, courage, and choice can become possible again.
How I Hold The Work
Sessions are highly individualized, trauma-informed, consent-centered, and relational. I do not use a one-size-fits-all model. The work begins with what your body is already showing us: the patterns, protections, longings, questions, and capacities that are ready to be met with more attention.
Depending on the work we are doing together, sessions may include somatic coaching, therapeutic touch, TRE® (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises), scar tissue remediation, consent and boundary practices, pleasure practice coaching, erotic embodiment, relational inquiry, or nervous system support.
The work is not about forcing catharsis or chasing a breakthrough. Sessions move at pace of attention, slowly and precisely, so that what emerges can integrate into how you relate, choose, receive, give, communicate, and respond.
Especially with bodywork, sexuality coaching, trauma, or scar tissue remediation, the quality of the container matters. I bring a strong commitment to consent and care. work. Your body deserves an expansive relationship to aliveness, expression, beauty, justice, and the capacity to feel.
Training and Experience
I have spent 13 years studying, practicing, and teaching in the fields of somatic sex education, sexological bodywork, trauma-informed bodywork, scar tissue care, and nervous system support.
I first trained as a Sexological Bodyworker in 2013 and have since continued advanced study in Somatic Sex Education, TRE® (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises), NeuroAffective Touch®, Wheel of Consent®, and body-based approaches to healing and transformation. I have also served as core faculty in Somatic Sex Education, Sexological Bodywork training spaces, supporting practitioners in developing ethical, embodied, and relationally attuned skills.
My background allows me to work with the body in ways that are both practical and profound. I understand the technical dimensions of bodywork, anatomy, tremor, scar tissue, arousal, consent, and nervous system repair. I also understand that the body is never only technical. It carries history, longing, grief, pleasure, protection, memory, and possibility.
My practice is dedicated to the liberation of the body from shame, silence, performance, inherited scripts, and survival strategies that are no longer of service. I want everybody to have access to choice. To language. To sensation. To pleasure that does not require self-erasure. To intimacy that has room to deepen. To a body that can be listened to and loved.
Working Together
People come to my practice for many reasons: chronic stress, trauma integration, erotic healing, scar tissue care, boundary work, intimacy challenges, body disconnection, or the desire to build a more honest relationship with their pleasure and expression.
Whatever brings you here, we begin with attention and intention. We listen for what your body has been holding, what it has been protecting, and what it may now be ready to practice.
