Discovering the Body’s Wisdom: An Intro to Somatics Workshop
Spring is springing, and like the flowers peeping their heads out of the ground, it’s time to wake that body up and pay attention to its needs!
April 16th, 6:30pm-8pm
You may have heard from social media, friends, therapists, etc., that to support our individual and collective healing, we need to be in our bodies. But what does it actually mean to “be in your body”? How does one go about doing that and why is this an important skill to learn?
Discovering the Body’s Wisdom is a 90-minute beginner-friendly introduction to somatics, the practice of listening to, making relationship ship with, and working with the body as an ally.
In this workshop, you’ll learn to:
understand the language of sensation
how to notice sensation without judgement
differentiate between thoughts and felt experience
practical somatic tools and practices to easily weave into your life
begin building a practice to honor the relationship you have with your body
understand how our bodies support us in collective liberation
This workshop is for you if you:
feel disconnected in your body
feel like you mostly “live in your head”
want simple tools that go beyond talk therapy
curious about somatic healing but unsure of where to begin
are practiced in somatics but love a space where you can return to the basics
After the workshop, you’ll have some tools to help you stay present, grounded, less intimidated by internal experience, and more confident in the ability to honor the wisdom of your body.
No experience necessary, just curiosity
This workshop is trauma-informed and consent-based (do only what you feel comfortable doing). Limited spots are available to keep the space intimate.
Where is this workshop being held?
This workshop will be at The Unreliable Narrator located at 302 N. Goodman St. #E101
Please arrive 10 min before the start of the workshop to find parking and to settle in. There should be plenty of parking available in the big parking lot.
What do I need to bring?
Just yourself and a notebook if you like to record your thoughts and experience.
Cost: A sacred pause and honesty
If we truly want a more just and loving world we need to talk about money, class, and income, and personally and collectively work with our money differently.
My sliding scale pricing recognizes that:
Financial resources, including income, should not determine whether or not someone can access services/care/community, etc.
Facilitators deserve to get paid and participants deserve classes that recognize the multiple realities of economic access and privilege exist.
Our worth is inherent. Regardless of how much we are able to pay, we deserve communities that honor our financial contributions as equal. Please know I appreciate your presence equally. If you pay less, nothing more is expected of you, I am grateful you are here. You do not need to work harder or do more work - I welcome and celebrate you showing up as you are and however suits you best.
I ask that you take your time with the guide and honestly assess where you sit within the scale when selecting your level.
Pay-it-forward: $30
Actual cost: $20
Access: $10
Pay-what-you-can: 2 spots available, email me at riverdrosera@gmail.com to register
